Club Meeting: Connecting Oregon to the World: The Port of Portland and Container Shipping

Teresa Carr, Director of Marine and Commercial Development for the Port of Portland, will discuss the return of international container shipping at Terminal 6 and how the Port connects Oregon businesses to global markets.

Teresa Carr, Director of Marine and Commercial Development for the Port of Portland, will share how the Port connects Oregon to global markets through international container shipping. Her presentation will provide an overview of the Port of Portland’s role in regional trade and economic development, including the return of international container shipping at Terminal 6.

Teresa will discuss how container shipping supports Oregon businesses and strengthens the state’s connection to global supply chains. The presentation will also explore the importance of Terminal 6 to the regional economy and how the Port works with industry partners to support trade and transportation throughout the Pacific Northwest.

Teresa Carr is Director of Marine and Commercial Development at the Port of Portland, where she leads the strategy and performance of the Port’s marine terminals and commercial real estate portfolio. Her work focuses on maximizing the economic impact of the Port’s maritime and industrial assets, supporting regional trade, business growth, and long-term economic vitality.

She leads a team responsible for six business parks, three marine terminals, and more than 300 active leases. These assets support more than 410 companies and 42,000 jobs across the region, generating approximately $217 million in Oregon state tax revenue and $42 million in local tax revenue annually.

Over more than two decades with the Port of Portland, Teresa has held leadership roles spanning community engagement, development, and general management. Her work focuses on aligning maritime operations, industrial land stewardship, and commercial real estate strategy to strengthen the Port’s role as a critical trade gateway.

Teresa is active in the community, serving on the boards of Home Forward and the Gresham Chamber of Commerce. She is also a strong advocate for mentoring emerging leaders and advancing women in the workforce.

Originally from Waycross, Georgia, Teresa holds both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree from Valdosta State University.
