David Krier, MD, MSPH will share stories from his new book, Discovering More. The collection draws on 37 years of international volunteer work on humanitarian projects designed to enrich the lives of people in need and the volunteers who serve alongside them.

Through personal experiences, observations, and lessons learned, Dr. Krier will highlight what sustained engagement looks like, how partnerships take shape on the ground, and why service can transform both communities and volunteers. He will also touch on collaborations with Rotary, universities, and other organizations, and how simple ideas can scale when trust and continuity are present.

This presentation offers a practical look at international service, the joys and challenges of working across cultures, and ways individuals and clubs can support ethical, effective volunteering.

The Rotary Club of Wilsonville meets weekly Thursdays at noon to provide service and fellowship to members and the Wilsonville community. Guests are welcome. Official bio:

David Krier, MD, MSPH is a family physician from St. Paul, Oregon, where he lives with his wife of more than fifty years. They have four grown daughters, eleven grandchildren, and nearly two great-grandchildren. Dr. Krier has practiced family medicine across Oregon in a wide range of settings. Although he has taken on administrative and research roles, his primary passion remains direct patient care.

In 1987 his life took a new direction when he began international volunteering—an experience that reshaped both his professional and personal journey. Since then, he has dedicated much of his free time to reaching new groups in need, strengthening ongoing projects, and inviting others into service.

A major focus of his work is expanding public awareness of meaningful volunteer opportunities and improving the experience of the volunteers who participate. He frequently partners with Rotary clubs, universities, and other civic and governmental groups to build sustainable projects and stronger communities.
