The Rotary Club of Wilsonville is now accepting nominations for the 2018 First Citizen Award to honor a local community member or couple for exceptional volunteerism and community service.

The club will announce three to five finalists in advance of Stars of Giving: The 2019 Heart of Gold Awards Dinner & Auction, which will be held Saturday, February 23, 2019 at the Wilsonville Holiday Inn. The finalists will be honored that night and the winner announced. Since 2002, the local Rotary Club has recognized and honored 22 official Wilsonville First Citizen recipients.

First Citizen nominations will be accepted through Dec. 31, 2018. A committee made up of Rotary and other Wilsonville community leaders will review the nominations.

“The Stars of Giving theme is fitting because the event takes place the night before the Oscars,” said Laura LaJoie Bishop, president of the Rotary Club of Wilsonville. “Hollywood has its star performers in leading roles, but so does Wilsonville. They are those people who make our city a better place to live. Some may be highly visible but others may go about their service quietly. The First Citizen award exists to recognize these selfless givers, but we need the community to help us identify them by submitting nominations.”

At last year’s Heart of Gold Awards Dinner & Auction, Jr. Scoops program leader Jordan Scoggins accepted the 2017 Wilsonville First Citizen award. Prior winners include Tim Knapp, Sherine and Jaimy Beltran, Donna Bane, Kathryn Whittaker, Jay Puppo, Dick Spence, Debi Laue, Lonnie and Julie Gieber, Theonie Gilmore, Anne Easterly, Ron Anderson, Bob and Judy Woodle, Alan Kirk, Doris Wehler, Sue Ludlow, John Ludlow, Charlotte Lehan and Dr. Laura LaJoie Bishop.
