Jordan Scoggins accepts the 2017 Wilsonville First Citizen Award from last year’s Club President Tim Knapp and District Governor Renee Campbell.

The Rotary Club of Wilsonville is now accepting nominations for the 2018 First Citizen Award to honor a local community member or couple for exceptional volunteerism and community service. Since 2002, the local club has recognized and honored 22 official Wilsonville First Citizen recipients at its annual Heart of Gold celebration each winter.

Nominations for First Citizen will be accepted through Dec. 31, 2018. A committee made up of Rotary and other Wilsonville community leaders will then select a small group of finalists and, ultimately, the 2018 Wilsonville First Citizen. The finalists will be announced in January, and the winner at the Rotary’s Heart of Gold Dinner and Auction on Saturday, February 23, 2019, at the Wilsonville Holiday Inn. The theme for this year’s event is “Stars of Giving”, recognizing that to be a successful community we must have champions who provide leadership and inspire others to create a stronger, more united Wilsonville. The celebration dinner will be a Hollywood-style awards theme, and Rotary encourages attendees to dress in their most elegant red-carpet attire!

“Our Heart of Gold Dinner and Auction is our annual celebration of Wilsonville’s great volunteers, dedicated citizens, and the important service projects that engage and strengthen our city,” said Rotary Club president Laura LaJoie Bishop. “To achieve this we need the community’s help to identify the next exemplary honorees who are the ‘stars’ of Wilsonville and demonstrate with their actions what makes Wilsonville such a wonderful community in which to live and work.”

At the last year’s Heart of Gold Celebration, Jordan Scoggins, a dedicated educator at Wood Middle School and founder of the Jr. Scoop student entrepreneurship program, accepted the 2018 Wilsonville First Citizen award. Prior winners include Mayor Tim Knapp, Sherine and Jaimy Beltran, Donna Bane, Kathryn Whittaker, Jay Puppo, Dick Spence, Debi Laue, Lonnie and Julie Gieber, Theonie Gilmore, Anne Easterly, Ron Anderson, Bob and Judy Woodle, Alan Kirk, Doris Wehler, Sue Ludlow, John Ludlow, Charlotte Lehan and Dr. Laura LaJoie Bishop.
