SUMMARY:Club Meeting: 9/11 and the Call to Serve
DESCRIPTION:John Budiao will share his powerful story of how the events of September 11\, 2001 shaped his life\, his service\, and his perspective on family and country. A Marine with experience ranging from field service to the silent drill team\, John reflects on how 9/11 was not just a national turning point but a deeply personal one. He will touch on the sacrifices of service\, the weight of responsibility\, and the challenges that come with fear\, loss\, and resilience. \nDrawing on personal experiences and lessons from mentors\, friends\, and family\, John emphasizes the importance of strong families as the foundation of the American dream. His message challenges fathers to step fully into their role as everyday heroes\, and honors the strength of mothers who often carry more than their share. With stories ranging from battlefield reflections to late-night calls for help\, John offers an honest\, heartfelt reminder that service\, family\, and community remain at the core of a full life. \nThe Rotary Club of Wilsonville meets weekly Thursdays at noon to carry out its purpose of providing service and fellowship to members and the Wilsonville community. Guests are welcome. Lunch is available off the menu; please arrive and order by 11:45 a.m. if you are ordering lunch. For more information\, email president@wilsonvillerotary.com. \nOfficial bio: \nJohn Budiao is a veteran and community leader who serves as a Communications and Controls Technician at a natural gas utility in Portland\, Oregon. He is a State of Oregon Licensed Electrician and General Radio Operator with expertise in microwave and radio systems\, data cabling\, PLC programming\, telemetry\, tower operations\, and data center management. \nJohn served more than 24 years in the U.S. Marines and Air Force Reserve in roles ranging from infantry to information management. He is also deeply invested in youth development and community engagement\, serving as Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 194 where he has guided over 50 scouts\, including 27 who achieved Eagle Scout rank. \nIn 2018\, John founded Operation Spartan Flags\, a nonprofit woodworking workshop that brings veterans together in a hands-on\, therapeutic environment. The nonprofit creates wooden flags\, clocks\, and cornhole boards from reclaimed wood\, serving as a reminder that everyone deserves a second chance. His leadership in the program was recognized when he was named NW Natural Volunteer of the Year in 2021. \n\n\n	Related
