DESCRIPTION:Pickleball Picks Up Steam In Wilsonville. \nStan Sherer has watched the sport’s popularity explode locally. When soliciting ideas for Memorial Park’s master plan\, “Pickleball got an amazing response\,” he said.  The city responded by adding two pickleball courts where a basketball half-court used to be “And that’s when it started to grow said Sherer. “It’s been a great success.”  Played with a lightweight paddle and a plastic ball\, pickleball is a sport that combines elements of tennis\, badminton and ping-pong. It’s played both indoors and outdoors on a badminton-sized court with a slightly modified tennis net.  Note:  Our meeting room will be set up for a live demonstration.  For those willing\, it will be an opportunity to give pickleball a try. \nStan Sherer is a Washington State University grad who has spent almost 40 years in municipal parks and recreations management for cities in California\, Nevada and Washington. Throughout the course of his career\, Sherer has managed the design\, construction and operation of a $33 million\, 13-field sports complex\, along with 50 neighborhood parks\, three regional parks and two community centers.  Stan arrived in Wilsonville in 2013 and has been instrumental in planning for the future. \nAnne Smith is a volunteer who coordinates Wilsonville’s growing pickleball program.  She is an ex-tennis player who has enthusiastically embraced pickleball because it provides exercise\, fun\, and athletic challenge without overtaxing an aging body.  She is an eight-year resident of Wilsonville with a business background in graphic design and university administration. \nBrad Moore (left)\, ACSMcPT is Fitness Specialist with Wilsonville Parks and Recreation and is liaison between the pickleball volunteers/players and the city. \n  \n\n\n	Related
