SUMMARY:Club Meeting: Being Light in Darkness
DESCRIPTION:Mike Tatlock of Grace Chapel will talk about the congregation’s new building and its initiative to support community organizations outside of the church through the use of the space. Partnering and proximity go together as we work side by side and share resources to increase the brightness for our community and those around us. We live in a world full of confusion\, fear\, anxiety and conflict. It can seem overwhelming and daunting\, but where’s there is darkness there is even greater opportunity to be light. Being light means being in proximity with darkness. It means to carry the brilliance of hope\, peace\, compassion and unity.  \nMike is the lead pastor at Grace Chapel and is chaplain for the Portland Trail Blazers in Portland\, Oregon. He has been one of the youngest teaching professors at Prairie College and Multnomah College and an adjunct professor at Western Grad School in Portland\, Oregon. He is an author\, frequent teacher at workshops\, seminars\, seminaries\, and churches around the world. His pastoral experience includes leading within urban\, inner-city\, and suburban churches. He has been on staff at Grace Chapel since 2004. \nThe Rotary Club of Wilsonville meets weekly Thursdays at noon to carry out its purpose of providing service and fellowship to members and the Wilsonville community. The club is holding hybrid “Virtual In Person” (VIP) meetings. People may attend in person\, or they may use Zoom (http://www.tinyurl.com/Rotary97070). Guests are welcome. SUMMARY:Club Meeting: Bystander Intervention
DESCRIPTION:Anna Bledsoe of the Volunteers of America Oregon will speak on the topic of bystander intervention. VOA Oregon’s bystander intervention workshop seeks to equip program participants with the knowledge\, skills\, and confidence necessary to become helpful and effective bystanders. The workshop helps participants understand some of the barriers that bystanders face\, allowing opportunities for them to reflect on some of their barriers to intervening\, and also introduces strategies to intervene in ways that are safe\, early\, and effective. She will offer a brief introduction to bystander intervention\, touch on some of the highlights\, and offer information about the full workshop and how to access it. \nAnna is the program director for VOA Oregon’s Prevention Services program\, a program that seeks to build environments that support behavioral health and promote social justice. Anna is passionate about the intersection of behavioral conditions\, mental health\, and social determinants. She cares deeply about fighting stigma and overcoming barriers associated with behavioral health and believes that prevention is the first step in reducing the impact that such issues have on the community.
