SUMMARY:Club Meeting: A Downhill Fight Against Cancer
DESCRIPTION:Kristin Smith\, executive director of the Cancer Resource Fund\, will speak on the upcoming Cancer Ski Out event\, scheduled for Sunday\, March 13 at the Resort at the Mountain in Welches\, Oregon. Normally offered as a combination social gathering\, auction night and ski race day\, the Cancer Ski Out is truly a “downhill fight” against cancer\, and it also happens to be serious fun! Kristin will talk about this unique event created by a group of friends\, and how it came about. She’ll also touch on the services and programs it supports for cancer patients and survivors and their families. Kristin is a Wilsonville resident and member of the Rotary Club of Wilsonville. She is the founding co-owner of Event Savvy\, an events company with expertise in planning and executing charitable\, corporate and cultural events. \nThe Rotary Club of Wilsonville meets weekly Thursdays at noon to carry out its purpose of providing service and fellowship to members and the Wilsonville community. DESCRIPTION:Hilly Alexander will speak on the Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library program and its recent 10-year milestone in Wilsonville. Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is dedicated to inspiring a love of reading by gifting books free of charge to children from birth to age 5\, through funding shared by Dolly Parton and local community partners in the United States\, Canada\, United Kingdom\, Australia and Republic of Ireland. The program was brought to Wilsonville by members of the Wilsonville Kiwanis Club and is currently managed by the Wilsonville Public Library Foundation. The program is currently supported by the Wilsonville Rotary Foundation. \nThe Rotary Club of Wilsonville meets weekly Thursdays at noon to carry out its purpose of providing service and fellowship to members and the Wilsonville community. She started to volunteer at the Wilsonville Public Library while still working full time. Volunteering turned into a second career.  Since then\, she has served two terms on the Wilsonville Public Library Board\, led the campaign for the Clackamas County Library District in Wilsonville (2008)\, served on the Wilsonville Public Library Foundation Board of Directors since 2008 including two terms as president\, and managed the Wilsonville Imagination Library\, an affiliate of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library\, since 2019. She is a member of the Rotary Club of Wilsonville.

She began with a master’s degree in aerospace engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. “When I graduated\, I worked to unite movers and shakers in the government with my team\,” she said. “This was how I discovered my ability to create strong bonds between people. I may have gone to school to be a rocket scientist\, but it turns out my true passion is fostering relationships. Once I discovered my passion for personal growth and development\, I knew I had to follow my heart. \n“As I walked my new path\, I explored Shamanism and energy healing\, which I consider an important part of my lifelong learning\,” she continued. “During my practice\, I glimpsed new and wonderful ways to connect with people in physical\, emotional\, and spiritual realms. I want to work with people who are endeavoring to build their community. I find joy in helping those who are looking to serve in a bigger way. Not only do I want to create positive change in the world with my own actions\, I yearn to help conscious business owners expand their reach and find their tribes.”

SUMMARY:Club Meeting: Taking Care of the Caregivers
DESCRIPTION:Bill Cohen\, a caregiver support group leader\, will speak on the importance and the how-to of taking care of caregivers. He is a volunteer with the Alzheimer’s Association\, a Certified Senior Advisor (CSA)®\, and the owner of Cohen Caregiving Support Consultants. His loving and talented mother\, Sheila\, lost her home to Hurricane Katrina. Then she lost her health\, her ability to create beautiful art\, and ultimately her life to Alzheimer’s. For almost 10 years\, Bill was her primary caregiver and advocate\, not just her elder son. Bill has completed multiple caregiving and aging courses through the Alzheimer’s Association and the Society for Certified Senior Advisors™️\, has a financial services and government background\, and earned business degrees from Boston and Portland State Universities.
