SUMMARY:Club Meeting: How PT Can Help with Posture and Stiffness
DESCRIPTION:There are more than 600 individual skeletal muscles in the human body\, providing strength and stability. The muscles and joints are designed to work together to create your mobility. Our modern lifestyle\, personal fitness regimes\, and choice of good/bad behaviors often cause us to strengthen some muscles\, others get weak and our joints can get stiff. If this weakness and stiffness persists over decades\, the neural pathways that allow your mind to control your movement become dormant. Physical therapists will begin by observing your posture\, gait and movement patterns. Then\, by assessing the range of motion in your joints and your overall flexibility\, he or she will have a clear picture of where your muscle imbalances are. Renée James will discuss dynamic movements that will re-awaken dormant neural connections that may be inhibiting your muscles from activating in the right sequence. \nThe Rotary Club of Wilsonville meets weekly Thursdays at noon to carry out its purpose of providing service and fellowship to members and the Wilsonville community. The club is holding hybrid “Virtual In Person” (VIP) meetings. Attend in person (masks required except when eating) at Al Kader Shrine Center\, or attend virtually over Zoom at http://www.tinyurl.com/Rotary97070. Guests are welcome. For more information\, email president@wilsonvillerotary.com. \nRenée along with her husband\, Jason James\, started Boones Landing Physical Therapy here in Wilsonville three years ago. She grew up in Redwood Falls\, Minnesota. She attended North Dakota State University receiving a B.S in Exercise Science. She then attended University of Minnesota for her masters in physical therapy graduating in 2002. Rene’e is an orthopedic board certified specialist who specializes in running related injuries\, post concussion rehab\, post operative shoulder\, spinal\, knee and ankle rehab. She sees many running enthusiasts that are working towards an easy 5K fun run as well as those that are training for New York or Boston marathon. She has assisted with triathlete clinics and participated in the training of high school and college runners. During Renée’s career\, she has had the opportunity to work in a multitude of physical therapy settings including three years of contract work around the United States. Settings included working in a level I and II trauma hospital at UCI medical center with patients in ICU and medical surgery floor to large hospital settings with post-operative total joint replacements Additionally\, she spent time in Reno/Tahoe area focusing on spinal related injuries. SUMMARY:Club Meeting: How Blanchet House Serves the Homeless
DESCRIPTION:Scott Kerman is the executive director of Blanchet House of Hospitality\, a 70-year-old nonprofit organization dedicated to providing aid\, support\, and community to people in need. He will discuss how Blanchet\nHouse has experienced a significant increase in the demand for its daily hot meals and clean\nclothing services due to the economic strain caused by the pandemic. In 2020\, Blanchet House\nvolunteers served more than 1\,500 plates of food a day to people experiencing homelessness\nor food insecurity. \nScott is shepherding the historic organization through great change by innovating to meet the\nneed for its services during unpredictable times. Blanchet House launched a sack lunch\nprogram to offer portable meals\, a care kit program to offer hygiene items\, and a reusable water\nbottle program to offer water relief during the summer’s heatwaves. These initiatives born out of\nthe COVID crisis are fueled by the generosity of donors at home.\nMore than meals\, Blanchet House's unique transitional housing programs located in downtown\nPortland and a farm in Yamhill County are lifting people out of addiction and homelessness. \nThe Rotary Club of Wilsonville meets weekly Thursdays at noon to carry out its purpose of providing service and fellowship to members and the Wilsonville community. The club is holding hybrid “Virtual In Person” (VIP) meetings. Attend in person (masks required except when eating)\, or attend virtually over Zoom at http://www.tinyurl.com/Rotary97070. Guests are welcome. NOTE NEW MEETING LOCATION THIS WEEK. For more information\, email president@wilsonvillerotary.com. \nScott received a bachelor of science degree in political science from Santa Clara University\, a master of arts degree in English from Portland State University\, and a doctor of jurisprudence from the University of Virginia School of Law. Learn more at BlanchetHouse.org.
