DESCRIPTION:Cole Merkel\, deputy director of outreach and engagement at HereTogether Oregon\, a local nonprofit that provides services to the homeless. He will give an update on the 2020 Metro bond to provide services for the homeless and support affordable housing in the region. \nThe Rotary Club of Wilsonville meets weekly Thursdays at noon to carry out its purpose of providing service and fellowship to members and the Wilsonville community. For more information\, email president@wilsonvillerotary.com. \nBefore joining the HereTogether team\, Cole spent a decade in direct service with people experiencing homelessness in the Portland region\, managing strategically expanding the vendor program at Street Roots. He also served as Statewide Organizer for ACLU of Oregon during the 2019 legislative session. The lived experience and relationships he brings to the work proved foundational in building the HereTogether coalition\, which reached more than 500 organizations\, businesses\, elected officials and community leaders during the ballot measure campaign. He has served on boards aimed at creating a more equitable Oregon\, including the Oregon Housing Alliance\, the CareOregon Community Advisory Board and the Clackamas County Commission’s Task Force on Housing Affordability and Homelessness. He currently serves as a steering committee member for the Oak Lodge Governance Project\, which is exploring potential governance options for the 25\,000 residents of the unincorporated Clackamas County communities of Oak Grove and Jennings Lodge.

In addition to her private practice\, she has taught income tax and accounting courses at Portland Community College as well as continuing professional education at various locations. Diane works with clients to fulfill needs involving tax preparation\, representation\, consultation\, forensic accounting or passive activity losses. Diane’s educational background includes a bachelor of arts in history with a minor in education received from Adelphi University in Garden City\, NY\, and a master of science accounting from State University of New York at Binghamton. Her interests include volunteer work\, hiking\, camping\, gardening\, and reading.

For more information\, email president@wilsonvillerotary.com. \nAlicia is a Financial Advisor at Capstone Wealth Advisors. Alicia has been in the financial industry since 2006\, starting in banking. She officially began to work in the capacity of Financial Advisor in 2017. Alicia remembers all too well the difficulty of understanding how to prepare for college when no one in the family has gone before.  \nA pivotal and defining moment in her financial career came during the Great Recession of 2008. During that time\, she witnessed how good financial advice could greatly improve a client’s quality of life in times of financial uncertainty. This is also when she became fascinated with the concept of behavioral finance\, the study of the influence of psychology on the behavior of investors. By coupling her years of financial industry experience with her understanding of the psychology of money\, she helps clients reach their financial goals\, maximize their portfolios\, and most importantly\, manage risk. \nWhen she is not serving clients\, she enjoys giving back to the community and you will often find her spending time outdoors biking\, hiking\, kayaking\, camping\, and fishing. She and her husband\, Blaze\, have two Rottweiler pups\, Odin and Eisa. \n
