DESCRIPTION:Clackamas Community College Bond: In November 2014\, voters in the Clackamas Community College district approved a $90 million bond measure that is being used to update and expand college classrooms and labs and modernize equipment to meet industry standards. Passage of the bond also results in CCC receiving $16 million in state matching funds\, which will be used to support the Industrial Technical Center and Harmony Phase II. The CCC Foundation is also raising an additional $5 million in 2016-17 to supplement the bond.

DESCRIPTION:Maritime Operations at the Port of Portland. \nAs the General Manager of Marine Operations at the Port of Portland Jeff is responsible for overall operations at the Port’s four Marine Terminals.  Before coming to the Port in 2000\, Jeff worked for NYK Line North America as the Operation and District Manager\, responsible for vessel operations and sales in the Oregon area.  Prior to that\, Jeff worked in Marine construction on various jetty\, dredging\, and dock construction projects throughout the US.  Jeff is the Past President of the Columbia River Steamship Operators\, has served as member of the Columbia River PMA Sub-steering Committee\, just completed an eight-year term on the Oregon Board of Maritime Pilots\, and represents the Port of Portland on the Northwest Marine Terminal Association. \n

DESCRIPTION:The Emergency Medical Services Degree Program at OIT \nNote:  This meeting will be held in room #106 at OIT. \nJamie is the Program Director and Assistant Professor at the Oregon Health and Science University and Oregon Institute of Technology Paramedic Education Program. As a program alumnus with an MS in aeronautical human factors and multiple fixed-wing pilot ratings\, his pre-hospital teaching and research interests are equally divided between the areas of technical skills training and teamwork behavioral training.  Jamie maintains an active role in the paramedic community through his involvement as a lead paramedic for a local ambulance company as well as by providing simulation training and education consulting engagements throughout the state. \nOIT prepares more than engineers.  At today’s meeting\, we will hear a presentation on that institution’s emergency medical services bachelor’s degree program\, one of only a few in the U.S. They also offer a two-year paramedic degree that is rigorous and produces some incredible graduates. One of the tracks in the B.S. degree is called Community Care. It’s a new type of proactive approach and branch of emergency medicine\, targeting frequent callers of 911 and the chronically ill. They will also provide a tour for members at the end for those who haven’t done it before or wish to do it again.

DESCRIPTION:Pickleball Picks Up Steam In Wilsonville. \nStan Sherer has watched the sport’s popularity explode locally. When soliciting ideas for Memorial Park’s master plan\, “Pickleball got an amazing response\,” he said.  The city responded by adding two pickleball courts where a basketball half-court used to be “And that’s when it started to grow said Sherer. “It’s been a great success.”  Played with a lightweight paddle and a plastic ball\, pickleball is a sport that combines elements of tennis\, badminton and ping-pong. It’s played both indoors and outdoors on a badminton-sized court with a slightly modified tennis net.  Note:  Our meeting room will be set up for a live demonstration.  For those willing\, it will be an opportunity to give pickleball a try. \nStan Sherer is a Washington State University grad who has spent almost 40 years in municipal parks and recreations management for cities in California\, Nevada and Washington. Throughout the course of his career\, Sherer has managed the design\, construction and operation of a $33 million\, 13-field sports complex\, along with 50 neighborhood parks\, three regional parks and two community centers.  Stan arrived in Wilsonville in 2013 and has been instrumental in planning for the future. \nAnne Smith is a volunteer who coordinates Wilsonville’s growing pickleball program.  She is an ex-tennis player who has enthusiastically embraced pickleball because it provides exercise\, fun\, and athletic challenge without overtaxing an aging body.  She is an eight-year resident of Wilsonville with a business background in graphic design and university administration. \nBrad Moore (left)\, ACSMcPT is Fitness Specialist with Wilsonville Parks and Recreation and is liaison between the pickleball volunteers/players and the city. \n
