FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE — October 7, 2015 – Wilsonville, Ore.

As a place to live and do business, Wilsonville is worth celebrating — and its volunteers are one of the biggest reasons.

That’s why the Rotary Club of Wilsonville has chosen “Celebrating Service” as the theme for the 2016 Heart of Gold Dinner and Auction. The annual awards banquet will have a Mardi Gras / masquerade flavor this year. It will be held Saturday, Feb. 6, 2016 at the Wilsonville Holiday Inn.

The annual event serves to recognize local volunteers, including one individual or couple who will be chosen for Wilsonville’s highest volunteer honor — the First Citizen award. Nominations for that award are now being accepted. To submit a nomination, go to http://www.wilsonvillerotary.com/heart/nominate or send an email to president@wilsonvillerotary.com. There’s also a PDF nomination form that can be downloaded from the site and mailed in.

“Our Heart of Gold Dinner and Auction exists so we can celebrate Wilsonville’s great volunteers and support Rotary’s great service projects, ” Rotary Club president Kyle Bunch said. “But to do that, we need the community’s help so we can identify the next deserving honoree.”

Nominations are due no later than December 15, 2015. A selection committee will then select a group of 4-5 finalists and, ultimately, the next Wilsonville First Citizen. The finalists will be announced in late January, and the winner announced at Celebrating Service: The 2016 Heart of Gold Dinner and Auction.

At the 2015 Heart of Gold Celebration, Donna Bane was honored. Prior winners include Kathryn Whittaker, Jay Puppo, Dick Spence, Debi Laue, Lonnie and Julie Gieber, Theonie Gilmore, Anne Easterly, Ron Anderson, Bob and Judy Woodle, Alan Kirk, Doris Wehler, Sue Ludlow, John Ludlow, Charlotte Lehan, and Dr. Laura LaJoie Bishop.

Proceeds from the Heart of Gold Dinner and Auction will go to support local and international service projects of the Wilsonville Rotary Foundation. Tickets details will be announced soon. Sponsorships are also available.
