Renee Brouse is the Rotary District 5100 Governor for 2023-24. The district follows the Oregon-Washington border from the Pacific Ocean to Idaho, covering a northern slice of Oregon and a southern slice of Washington, including the major cities of Portland, Salem and Vancouver. The District Governor visits all clubs, each on a designated date, during the course of the year, to give updates on Rotary from the district and international perspective and to inspire clubs and members to higher success.

Club Meeting: Addressing Camping for Survival in Wilsonville

Wilsonville City Attorney Amanda Guile-Hinman will review the City’s work in 2022 and 2023 to bring its local code into compliance with federal and state mandates requiring the City to adopt regulations for persons experiencing homelessness to camp on City property. She will discuss the City’s communication and outreach strategy, the adopted local code provisions, implementation steps, and outcomes since the new regulations went into effect on July 1, 2023.

Club Meeting: Kiwanis Doernbecher’s Children’s Cancer Program

John Brookens, a dedicated Kiwanis member, will share the impactful journey of the Kiwanis-Doernbecher partnership since 1985. From funding critical neonatal and oncology equipment to training physician-scientists, their efforts have made significant strides in pediatric cancer care. John will highlight the program's success in producing world-renowned experts in Pediatric Oncology and Hematology. His talk will underscore our shared commitment to ending childhood cancer, a mission more vital than ever.

Club Meeting: Go Vets Oregon: Helping Disabled Vets get Around

Bryan Simpson, Veteran Travel Trainer for Rogue Valley Transportation District, will talk about Go Vets Oregon. Go Vets Oregon makes it easier for veterans to get around and access services. Their primary mission is to increase veteran access to medical appointments and support services in rural communities across Oregon by promoting and facilitating carpooling.

Kyle Colleen Black, Policy and Outreach Associate at the Oregon Justice Resource Center (OJRC), is driven by a deep understanding of the harmful effects of incarceration on individuals, families, and communities. She actively advocates for those impacted by the carceral system, engaging in discussions with state leaders and raising awareness through talks at Oregon universities. Her outreach work is centered on promoting systemic improvements, emphasizing accountability, transparency, rehabilitation, and a shift from punitive measures to a restorative and healing approach.

Rotarian Joe Kurmaskie, who has dedicated extensive efforts to Free Bikes 4 Kidz, a non-profit organization transforming lives one bike at a time. Joe's journey involves collecting, cleaning, and refurbishing gently used bikes, in collaboration with SMART and the City of Wilsonville, to ensure every child experiences the joy and freedom of owning a bike. Through summer camps, holiday bike giveaways, and the tireless work of volunteers, Free Bikes 4 Kidz aims to steer kids towards a happier, healthier childhood
